Catching Up, Races, Training and More

Alex and I have just returned from a Spartan Training at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.  Well, we didn’t come directly home.  Citizens Bank Park is in South Philly, which is also where the Philly Ikea is…  So I took him to Ikea for his first cafe experience and we grabbed some items at the marketplace before Alex had his fill of family shoppers and we headed home.  He is napping now.  I’m on the patio wishing Tula hadn’t just peed in my planter.  Ugh.

There is a car show downtown this afternoon.  And Germany plays beats (hopefully!) Ghana this afternoon in their 2nd game this World Cup.  It is nice to have some downtime today.  It has been a very long time since I have blogged for real!  My weekends are more than just long runs now, it’s nice out.  Today is the first day of summer, officially.  I feel like I should be at the beach.  But I’ll take catching up at home for now too.  =)

Alex and I are signed up for all three Spartan Race distances this summer: the Sprint in July, and the Super and Beast in September.  They are now offering free workout groups in major cities to prepare participants for the Spartan Race.  So we travelled to Philly this morning and completed a 90+ min workout in the Phillie’s parking lot.  It was cooler this morning, overcast most of the time.  We even felt a couple sporadic rain drops during the workout.  The warm-up included a lot of running in place, jumping jacks, and of course the favored burpee.  We had a couple running bits and spent a lot of time in plank position (or active rest, as they called it).  After that, we did some leg lifts, some abs, some bear crawl modification, crab walk, etc.  We finished with a group photo in front of the stadium.

Like Alex said after, it was a good event, but not a great workout.  We spent a lot of time on our buttocks (as the trainer was fond of saying) listening to stories.  Which is all well and good, if we weren’t several hundred people spread out all over a parking lot with planes from Philly International overhead constantly.  Basically, I had a hard time hearing the stories.  And while I packed gloves to wear, I left them in the car; big oops. The palm of my hands are raw from the pavement.  Ouch.  We did get a sweet “I AM TRAINING FOR A SPARTAN RACE” t-shirt out of it though.  AND we got lunch at Ikea.  So far this is a good day.

Now to go back a little…  I owe you 4 race recaps (I will link once each is written…):
