Guaro Sour

The first day we were in Costa Rica, Claire ordered an Amaretto Sour from the bar. The server came back with a Fresca-looking drink in a highball glass with a lime and sugared rim. Instead of an Amaretto Sour, she got a Guaro Sour. Guaro is clear liquor distilled from sugar cane juice that originated in Costa Rica. A Guaro Sour tastes a little bit like spiked lemonade, and it’s pretty awesome. So it became our drink of vacation. I had a little trouble towards the end of vacation, getting less strong drinks or ones with salt instead of sugar on the rim, but overall, I think I found a new favorite.

Now, if only I could find it here.

I did some research and discovered Guaro is similar to the Columbian Aguardiente, which I found in our local liquor store. Mixed with sour mix, juice of half a lime and a splash of grenadineā€¦ Guaro Sour!
