26 at 26

Happy Birthday to me! And Happy 4th of July to all of you! Hope you’re enjoying your mid-week day off, I know I am. =)

This morning I ran my first 10k race (wohoo!). I figured it would be the perfect way to kick off my 26th year. Why? Because I’m planning on 26 at 26! I’ve been toying with the idea over a year since I heard a friend talk about it. In the past couple months, it’s become more of a reality- run 26 miles at age 26? I can do that. So I started discussing it with Alex, my mom, friends… Then I started telling strangers about my ambitious goal. So now I’m planning to run my first marathon next spring: The New Jersey Marathon at the Shore, Sunday, May 5, 2013. I think one of the things that really solidified my decision was at our second engagement shoot. We met in Asbury Park and couldn’t take many boardwalk pictures since it was closed for the marathon. Next year, I’ll be running that race!

I have a half marathon planned for Sunday, September 30th, and several more 5 and 10k races. My training is going well so far, my 10k race time was 1:01:04, a minute slower than I planned for, but not bad! My coworker, Katie, and I have a 5k planned for next Thursday the 12th. My goal is to break my last 5k time (28:18). Alex also got me the Nike+ GPS running watch for my birthday, so I’ll be able to keep a close eye on my training and I’ll post periodic updates here so you can too!

There’s also plenty of time if you want to join me! I welcome any training partners, even if at a distance. =)
